This was my first published collaboration after graduating Boston University’s Masters Program in 2016. Grateful to have Drs. Mastrorilli and Cadigan agree to co-write this article, and to assist in the design of my new theory RESCAT (Required Elements for a Social Engineered Cyber Attack Theory). The article deals with the importance of understanding how our human nature and human curiosity can be manipulated by cybercriminals to persuade us to react as they intend – and not in our best interest. A key component of RESCAT, is recognizing that there are 5 emotions that bad actors attempt to trigger when designing their attacks against users of technology: fear, greed, helpfulness, obedience, and urgency. Article was graciously published in the Henry Stewart Publications journal – Cyber Security – A Peer-Reviewed Journal, Winter 2019-20, Volume Three, Number Two. (Subscription to Henry Stewart Publications, or Ingenta required to read).
